WHAT IS COSPLAY

Cosplay is a term formed from the union of the words costume and play  and that is what you call the art of dressing up and impersonating characters from comics, animation, movies, TV and other genres.  Those who practice this art are called cosplayers.

CONTEST

Thanks to the effort and dedication of the puertorrican cosplayers, we have a cosplay contest at Kaisen .

It is the more popular event at Kaisen, with hundreds of cosplayers giving their all to be recognized as the best of the best in three categories.

You don't have to pay anything to enter the contest.

If you don't want to compete but still want to go on stage you can write your name on the parade list on the Judges' area and we will call your name after the participants of the contest.

Remember that cosplay is done for fun and it is its own reward!

COSPLAY CONTEST CATEGORIES

Kaisen's cosplay contest can be divided in 3 categories:

  1. Anime : cosplays from animated series from Japan (such as Naruto, Bleach and others)
  2. Comics/Movies/TV: cosplays of superheroes (ex. Batman, Spider-Man), movie characters (ex. Star Wars, Indiana Jones) and television characters (ej. House, Battlestar Galactica). Also characters from animated programs and movies that are not japanese (Avatar, Incredibles, Snow White)
  3. Videogames: cosplays from characters that come from videogames (ex. Mario Bros, Final Fantasy)

Each category is divided into Ladies and Gentleman sections and the limit is 35 cosplayers. So, the contest is limited to a total of 210 cosplayers (35 x 6 sections).

CAT. 1 - ANIME CAT. 2 - COMICS/MOVIES/TV CAT. 3 - VIDEOGAMES

CHILDREN

All children cosplayers are winners at Kaisen.  Instead of a competition we have the children parade where every child receives a participation certificate and a candy bag.

GROUPS

We have a group competition at Kaisen at last.  You need at least 5 coslayers and at maximum 12 to constitute a group and you will be judged as a group, not individually and added up. You can inscribe your group by email at cosplaycontest@gmail.com or at the Judges area at Kaisen.

INSCRIPTION

There are limited spaces in each category at the cosplay contest for Kaisen, so it is recommended that you send your name as soon as possible.  Each category has a limit of 35 participants for a total of 210 cosplayers in the contest. Once the category is filled the category is closed and we will not accept more  participants.

If you want to inscribe by email you can do it by writing to the following address:

cosplaycontest@gmail.com

Each cosplayer must send the following info:

  1. Name
  2. Sex
  3. Category in which they want to participate (Anime, Comics/Movies/TV, Videogames)
  4. Name of the character
  5. Name of the series/comic/movie/videogame that features the character
  6. Image of the character

If you want to participate as a group, the group leader will have to send the info for all cosplayers in the group.

You will receive by email your confirmation and the unique number that will identify you in the competition. Deadline for inscription is Wednesday October 28 at 10:00 AM.

After the email inscriptions deadline the remaining spaces will be filled at Kaisen day in the Judges' Area.  Remember to bring the image of the character you will be doing cosplaying.

EVALUATION

We use the judge system to evaluate the cosplayer.  Each participant must go to the Judges' Area between  9:00AM and 2:00 PM to be evaluated by the judges

The following criteria will be used by the judging teams:

1. Workmanship – Maximum 10 points - Measures the effort of the cosplayer in the creation of their suit and props..
2. Actitude – Maximum 10 points - It measures the identification of the cosplayer with the character: its ticks, poses and enthusiasm with the characterization it realizes.
3. Precision – Maximum 10 points - The judges will compare the cosplay with the image provided by the cosplayer to verify how close the cosplay is with the original design.  Not bringing an image of the cosplay will result in 0 points in this criteria.
4. Originality - Maximum 10 points - In this criteria the judges will evaluate the novelty of the character portrayed. This is not the same as a totally original character, which do not qualify. A variation of an established character is allowed.  Has the character been portrayed many times?  By the same person? That makes it less riginal and should obtain less points.

The evaluation period ends at 2:00 PM.  All judges decisions are final.
